Preserving Appalachia's Historic Cemeteries

One memorial at a Time

Cleaning, Repair, Restoration, Preservation

Preserving ancestral history for generations to come

The historic graveyards and cemeteries of Appalachia provide a resting place for those who have gone before us.

They are also a vital source of information for historians and genealogists seeking to understand how our ancestors lived, died, and faced lives that were often short and difficult.

And in spite of those day-to-day challenges, families often went to considerable expense to ensure that their loved ones would be remembered. They purchased and maintained memorials that were themselves works of art.

For all these reasons, we’ve made it our mission to preserve those memories and resources wherever we can.

01.

Cleaning

Years of grime makes memorials illegible. But harsh cleaning can do more harm than good. Using the right tools and products is critical.

02.

Resetting

Historic slab stones become broken and dislodged from their bases. Resetting them with period-accurate techniques ensures their future survival.

03.

Leveling

Over time, ground subsides, bases become unlevel, and gravestones lean. Eventually they will fall which can cause damage and injury.

04.

Restoration

Carelessness, vandalism, and accidents can leave stones broken with pieces scattered or buried. Though often unrepairable, the right materials and know-how can bring them back.

05.

Documentation

FindAGrave.com has become an essential tool for history and genealogical research. The goal is to record every identifiable cemetery and burial site world-wide. Virtually all this work is done by volunteers.

We make sure that every site we visit is documented.

06.

Decoration

Do you want to place flowers or other decorations at your loved one’s grave site in our service area, but can’t make it yourself?

We’ll do it for you.

Why Choose Us

Just as in medicine, the first principle of gravestone care is “Do No Harm”

Nothing is more important.

Qualified Expert

There are no certifications to "prove" that a restorationist is qualified. It's important to choose based on experience, character, and a dedication to basic principles.

Flexible Schedule

"Emergency Gravestone Service" isn't really a thing, but once you've committed to a project you want to see it completed. This is our retirement gig. It's what we like to do, so we won't keep you waiting.

Workmanship Quality

Historically appropriate and materially safe restoration products are very specialized and can be quite expensive. We don't skimp on quality.

Affordable Package

See "retirement gig". The goal is primarily to feed our cemetery habit. No one will match our combination of service, quality, and price.
